Five fishermen missing

Complaints have been made to the Police that five Sinhala fishermen had been abducted by a group of armed men in the Sampoor sea, 4 km offshore, south of Muttur in the Trincomalee district on Saturday evening.

Some Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) boats patrolling the area had rushed to the scene, and they were able to recover the fishing gear and the boats, said naval sources.

However the armed men had taken the five fishermen ashore, the sources said.

The Navy says the Liberation Tigers are responsible.
