Building owners ask for compensation

The owners of 291 houses and buildings that were taken by the Sri Lankan Army in Kopay in Jaffna have petitioned the Divisional Secratariat of that area to return their properties or grant compensation for their loss or pay rent.

The houses and buildings are either occupied by the SLA or are inside the defence perimeter of camps.

Many public buildings including the Atchuvely Multi Purpose Co-operative Society's head office in the Kopay division are also occupied by the army.

The petitioners claimed that they were displaced by the Army's takeover of their homes and are now facing hardships as a result, sources said.
