Army suspicious of arrivals

Ten families which arrived in the Jaffna peninsula from the Vanni by sea on 26 November (Wednesday) were detained by the SLA at the Kurunagar 'CeyNor' camp. They will be held there until everyone in the group is screened by the Sri Lankan army, said sources.

According to procedure laid down by the Sri Lanka army, the Grama Sevaka from the village of a detainee has to confirm the veracity of the details given by him or her to the SLA.

This takes considerable time because many Grama Sevakas are not willing to take responsibility for vouching for people who come from the Vanni.

The army suspects that the LTTE is infiltrating its fighters into the suburbs of Jaffna town among such people.
