SL President failed to satisfy his promises: families of enforced disappeared in Batticaloa

[TamilNet, Monday, 26 February 2018, 13:07 GMT]
The President of genocidal Sri Lanka is trying to escape from his promises on tracing what had happened to those subjected to enforced disappearance by the armed forces under him. Mr Maithiripala Sirisena is now explaining that the crimes took place under Mahinda Rajapaksa and that he is not answerable. “As far as the families of enforced disappeared are concerned the culture of impunity continues as long as there is a Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, unwilling to trace the records of the military under him,” said Mrs Amalanayaki Amalraj, the coordinator of Batticaloa district families of persons subjected to enforced disappearances.

“We have been asking the SL President is to trace what happened to every person, sent to secret detention after their arrest by the SL armed forces or their hand-over in front of the families to the SL military,” she further said.

There is no ‘good governance’ at all when Mr Maithiripala Srisena, the SL president, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, has failed to deliver what he promised during the election campaign for regime change.

On the contrary to his promises, the SL President has also gone on record on several occasions vowing to defend his armed forces against any investigation.

All the so-called investigations that are being carried out are only targeting the supporters of his political opponents, she further said.

Tamils are forced to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea in the electoral politics, she further said.

Regardless of who is sitting in power, the SL President as the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces is directly responsible for the current plight of every family that has been seeking answers on the whereabouts of their family members, she said.

“In my case, I have even identified who committed the arrest. But, no one is willing to do anything about it,” Amalanayaki Amalaraj said.
