Tamils confront Colombo by reviving deity rituals at threatened heritage-sites in Vanni

[TamilNet, Thursday, 13 September 2018, 22:01 GMT]
The Eezham Tamil villagers from Chemmalai-East in Mullaiththeevu and Nedungkea'ni in Vavuniyaa North have successfully marked ceremonial rituals for Hindu deities at two of their recently-threatened heritage sites in Vanni. The residents of Olu-madu and Muthiram-paddi villages in Nedungkea'ni staged a three-day long feast since Friday at Vedukku-naa'ri with broader participation and the villagers of Chemmalai in Mullaiththeevu marked a Pongkal feast on Monday at the Sinhala-Buddhicised Neeraaviyadi Pi'l'laiyaar temple. However, the extremist sections of the Sinhala Theravada Buddhist establishment, SL Archaeology Department and the occupying Sinhala military, remain emboldened through the military backing of the USA, Japan and India, particularly by the joint naval exercises that have taken place in Trincomalee in recent days, Tamil political observers in Trincomalee commented.

The Tamil residents of Chemmalai have been confronting the repeated moves by the occupying Sinhala military along with the SL Archaeology and Survey Departments to grab the lands surrounding Neeraavi-eattam along the lagoon of Naayaa'ru in Karai-thu'raip-pattu division of Mullaiththeevu district.

For the first time since 2010, the people at Chemmalai managed to mobilise a pooja with traditional pongkal at Neeraavi-eattam, on Monday.

Similarly, the SL Archaeology Department was instigating the SL Law enforcement authorities to block the Tamil villagers in Vavuniyaa North from accessing Vedukku-naa'ri hill last month, when the villagers were preparing to mark the annual Aadi Amaavaasai, a ritual that Saivites observe in remembrance of their ancestors.

Now, the villagers have succeeded in staging a three-day long feast with the backing of Tamil politicians and the public.

However, the uprising of the grassroots remains at a lower scale without reaching the sphere of concerns of the global and regional powers that sustain the genocidal paradigm in the island in their greed for geopolitical access to the strategic location of the island.

The powers that enter the sovereignty-space of Eezham Tamils through Colombo-centric designs have to be told in uncertain terms, particularly by the Tamil politicians, on their dangerous Indian Ocen experiments sustaining the unitary State of genocidal State, which refuses to change its modus operandi of waging protracted genocide against the nation of Eezham Tamils, Tamil political observers in Trincomalee said.

They were citing the case of Maththa'la-malai at Choodaik-kudaa in Kooniththeevu, which is located near Champoor in Moothoor division of Trincomalee district. The US Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), operating at Trincomalee accompanied by Japan and India, are grooming a Sinhala marine force at the occupied country of Eezham Tamils in Champoor.
