Vehicle accident injures STF women

A truck taking 35 women Special Task Force personnel for special army training met with an accident at Mangalagama in the Ampara district this afternoon. 20 women STF personnel were seriously wounded. Others received minor injuries.

The seriously wounded women STF personnel were immediately admitted to the Ampara district hospital, sources said.

The accident took place when the truck was on its way to Kondavedduvan army camp from Sandumpura STF station in Dehiyattakandiya. These women STF personnel were to be given special military training at Kondavedduwan army camp, sources said.

Meenwhile the STF cordoned off Veeramunai, a Tamil village in the Ampara district and conducted a house to search operation this afternoon.

Security sources said that the operation was conducted on a tip off that some Liberation Tigers had infiltrated into the village.
