Food route to Vanni affected by rains

Food supply to the northern Vanni the region has been affected, as three by-roads between Omanthai and Mankulam have been washed off by heavy rains yesterday, said government officials in Vavuniya.

Two lorries in the convoy got stuck in the mud at the in Kanakarayankulam area, and the remaining vehicles have to stay in Vavuniya, they said.

Twenty lorries carrying food and kerosene left for Kilinochchi district yesterday, but they returned to Vavuniya, the officials added.

Meanwhile, 455 persons from Vavuniya, were allowed to go to the LTTE held areas in the Vanni with the escort of the ICRC, said sources.
