Lion Air flight aborts Jaffna landing

The Lion Air flight which shuttles between Jaffna and Colombo had to turn back today due to bad monsoon weather conditions in the peninsula.

The flight left the Ratmalana airport at 2.15 p.m. this afternoon and returned by about 4 p.m. after making several unsuccessful attempts to make a safe landing at the Palaly airbase in Jaffna.

Lion Air flights usually carry civilians approved by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defence.

SLAF flights to the north have also been hard hit by the monsoon weather that set in earlier than expected in the Wanni.
