Equal Opportunity Bill not to be presented: AG

The Attorney General, K.C.Kamalasabesan, told the Supreme Court today that the proposed "Equal Opportunity Bill" would not be presented in the parliament.

The AG made his statement when the Bench, comprising Justices, A.R.P.Amarasinghe, R.W.M.Weeraratne and A.Ismail took up a petition filed by several leading Buddhist Organisations challenging the constitutional validity of the Bill.

The court has discharged the cases.

Meanwhile the fundamental rights case filed by the Mannar Government Agent, Mr. Cruz, which was fixed for hearing today has been postponed to November 1, said sources.

The GA was arrested on September 4. He is being detained by the Counter Subversive Unit (CSU) of the Sri Lankan Police.
