Remaining Vavuniya residents asked to leave

The Voice of Tigers in its news broadcasts this morning and yesterday night has appealed to the people who are still staying in Vavuniya area to leave immediately to designated safe places, residents said.

Some people are still staying in Vavuniya town and its suburbs despite the appeal by the Liberation Tigers through their radio broadcasts, sources said.

The VoT in its news broadcasts has asked all remaining residents to move out from Vavuniya immediately.

Meanwhile a youth was shot dead by the Sri Lanka Army soldiers following a grenade attack on them around 4.30 p.m. yesterday evening at Veppankulam in Vavuniya sources said.

The SLA claimed the youth was member of the Liberation Tigers and that they recovered a grenade and ammunition for 9 mm. pistol.
