Police post attacked

Three military trained policemen, including a sub-inspector, were killed when the Liberation Tigers attacked a check point at Thoppur,5 km south of Muttur town in the Trincomalee district around 9 a.m., this morning said sources.

Mohamed Sadiq (57). owner of a tea shop, near the check point, was killed and another wounded in the ensuing firefight the sources said.

The wounded civilian, V.Kamalanathan, 36, is admitted at the Muttur hospital, the sources added.

The check point is in the heart of Thoppur. Civilians from Pallikudddiruppu, an area held by the Liberation Tigers, south of Muttur, cross this check post to enter Thoppur the sources said.
