Jaffna civilians move to safe areas

The majority of the residents living in the coastal suburbs of Jaffna have moved to safer areas as fierce fighting was reported in other parts of the Jaffna peninsula, said sources in the northern town today.

They said about 90 percent of residents from Pashaiyoor, Gurunagar and Colombuthurai have moved to Chundikuli, Nallur, Kalviankadu, Achchuveli and other interior areas of the town.

The Liberation Tigers have repeatedly made announcement over the Voice of Tigers (VoT) radio, urging civilians living in designated areas in Jaffna, to move out one kilometre away from main Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camps and 500 meters from SLA check points in their villages, residents said.
