Tiger advance near Iyakkachchi - radio

The Thamileela Vaanoli radio, the commercial service of the Voice of Tigers (VoT) said today in its evening news broadcast that heavy fighting is continuing between the advancing fighting formations of the Liberation Tigers and the SLA at Sangathaar Vayal in the general area of Iyakkachchi.

The radio said the LTTE inflicted heavy casualties yesterday and today among Sri Lankan government troops and has captured a large haul of weapons, ammunition and military equipment from the SLA. The radio further said that the bodies of many SLA soldiers are strewn around Sangathaar Vayal.

Sangathaar Vayal village is situated between Elephantpass and Iyakkachchi.

It is one mile south of Iyakkachchi junction and two and a half miles north of Elephantpass to the east of Kandy Road (A9 highway).

The fighting continues the radio said.
