Five policemen killed

Three military trained policemen were killed in a claymore mine attack around 10 a.m. today, at Vaarikuttiyoor, few miles off Poovarasankulam in the Vavuniya district, said sources.

The Liberation Tigers launched this attack while a group of policemen were patrolling the area on bicycles, the sources added.

They have been identified as :Maapah udiyansalage Indike (PC No.,18923), Ramiyasiri Bandara (PC No.36000) and Piyasenage Dissanayake (PC No.36364).

In another incident on 25 December, at Aandiayapuliyankulam, also in Vavuniya district, two policemen, patrolling on bicycle, were shot dead by the Liberation Tigers, security sources said.
