Protect free media, urges Ranil

The Leader of the United National Party, Ranil Wickremasinghe has made an appeal to all to rally round to safeguard the media freedom in Sri Lanka. He made this appeal when addressing a press conference on Wednesday.

He said the government's recent announcements and actions have proved that it is attempting to muzzle the media freedom in the country.

"The United National Party is prepared to work with all political parties, individuals and other non-governmental organisations to safeguard the freedom of the media", said Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe.
