SLFP to allow MP crossovers

Central Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main constituent of the ruling People's Alliance, decided to day to present immediately a bill that allows a Member of Parliament to cross over to another party.

SLFP sources said the bill is aimed at allowing a parliamentarian to choose a party of his or her wish, and called upon all political parties to support the bill.

It was also decided at the meeting to take measures to amend the constitution once the bill is approved in the house, or to call for fresh general elections, if it is rejected.

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), a constituent of the ruling PA, has said it will not support the bill.
