[TamilNet, Sunday, 23 January 2000, 13:30 GMT]
The Parliamentary Group Leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front Mr. Joseph Pararajasingham has brought to the notice of the Minister of Health the discrimination in paying special incentive allowance to medical officials and specialists working in the war torn northeast province.
In a letter to the Minister of Health, Mr. Pararajasingham, MP for Batticaloa said that the circular issued last December by the Ministry of Health had clearly instructed not to pay this special incentive allowances to medical officers and specialists who are termed to be residents of the north east province. The circular had categorically stated that medical officers and specialists who are residents of other provinces are the only ones eligible for this special incentive allowance. Mr. Pararajasingham has pointed out to the Minister of Health that medical officers and specialists born outside or inside the northeast province face the same exposure of danger without any distinction in the war torn province. Therefore action must be taken immediately to pay the special incentive allowance to medical officers and specialists who are residents in the northeast province.
