12 policemen, 4 farmers killed

Twelve policemen, including an Assistant Superintend of Police (ASP) were killed, and three others were wounded in an ambush by the Liberation Tigers at Aralaganwila, in the Polonnaruwa District, around 11 a.m. today.

Four farmers were killed and three others were injured in the ensuing clashes, security sources said.

Aralaganwila is a village south of Welikanda in the border between Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa Districts.

The Tigers had removed some weapons from the scene of the attack, sources said.
