Three soldiers missing in Valaichenai

Two soldiers have been reported missing from the Sri Lanka army camp in Kalkudah, 35 km. north of Batticaloa, since Tuesday April 11, Police sources in Valaichenai said today. There is no indication of their whereabouts despite investigations by the army, according to them.
Another soldier was reported missing last week from the Peythalai SLA camp which is located about 2 km. west of Kalkudah on the road to Valaichenai. The soldiers reported missing from the Kalkudah army camp may have deserted their posts, according to Valaichenai Police sources. They said that it has transpired that the soldier who was reported missing last week from the Peythalai camp had removed his uniform and had forcibly taken a bicycle from a civilian in the village for making good his escape from the area. There is no trace of him too the Police said. The civilian has not recovered his bicycle.
