32 detained in Vavuniya[TamilNet, Wednesday, 26 April 2000, 16:52 GMT]Thirty-two people, including three women, have been detained by the Counter Subversion Unit (CSU) and police in the northern town of Vavuniya, said the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) there. The women, Mahinda Kafoor Menaka, 18, of Jeevanakar, Muththayankaddu; Antony Jeyapalan Arulmala, 16, of Mulliavalai and Antonypillai Mary Josephine, 56, are in custody at the Vavuniya Police station, HRC chairman Mr Sreetharan said. The remaining 29 are held at the CSU detention centre, said Mr Sreetharan who'd visited the detainees. Separately, two men arrested in Vavuniya last week - Subramanium Sureshkumar, 28, of Ragupaakam, Ukkulankulam and Krishnan Vigneswaran - have been released, Mr Sreetharan said.
