TELO cadres shot dead

Two members of a pro-government group, Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO), were shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Kalladi, about 2 km. north of Batticaloa, around 3.45 p.m. Wednesday evening the police said.

The TELO cadres, attached to the group's office at Aaraiyampathi, were returning from Batticaloa when they were shot at. They were identified as Somasunderam Manivannan, alias Mani and Vinayakamoorthy Pushparajah, alias Pushpan. Both of them died on the spot. Their bodies were taken to Batticaloa hospital.

A combined search operation was conducted in the area by the police, Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers and TELO cadres sources in Batticaloa. Some civilians were assaulted during the search, according to sources in the area.
