Nagar Kovil SLA thrust repulsed -LTTE

The combat units of the Liberation Tigers repulsed an offensive assault by the Sri Lanka Army in the Nagar Kovil area of the Vadamaradchi eastern coast on Tuesday, inflicting heavy casualties, LTTE official sources in London said this evening.

Sri Lanka Army soldiers launched an offensive thrust against the LTTE positions at Nagar Kovil with massive aerial and artillery bombardment in the early hours of Tuesday morning, the sources said.

The LTTE fighters put up fierce resistance and stalled the offensive, with fighting continuing until 7 p.m., the sources added.

The London office of the LTTE confirmed that 32 Liberation Tigers were killed in the fighting.
