SLFP candidate list ready

The SLFP branch in Jaffna said today that they had prepared the list of candidates for the Jaffna Local Government elections. The secretary of the SLFP branch in Jaffna is currently in Colombo, to get final approval from the party leadership.

An SLFP Jaffna branch official said that the party's chief organiser in Jaffna, Mr. Velmurugu Thangarajah, has been recommended by the Jaffna SLFP branch as their Mayoral candidate.

The SLFP headquarters in Colombo, however, has not officially said anything regarding the Jaffna local Government elections as such.

Party circles say that official decision has yet to be reached on the matter. "We are just following the developments", said SLFP sources in Colombo.

The Jaffna district SLFP has to get the party secretary's endorsement by tomorrow, if it is to submit the nominations list for contesting the Jaffna Municipal Council election.

However, the Sri Lankan President, who as leader of the SLFP needs to authorise the list, is in Pakistan today.
