ICRC transfers 16 bodies

The Sri Lanka army handed over the bodies of 16 Tigers who were killed in the Colombuthurai-Ariyalai sector of the Jaffna town on 10 September to the International Committee of the Red Cross at Neervely Tuesday around 11.30 a.m. The body bags were transferred by the ICRC to the area held by the Liberation Tigers along a route agreed upon by both parties.
The transfer of the bodies was made after the SLA and the Liberation Tigers had agreed upon the modalities and after the ICRC secured the necessary security guarantees from them, a spokesman for the organisation told TamilNet. Heavy fighting erupted on Sunday morning when the SLA made another attempt to capture terrain in the south-eastern suburbs of Jaffna town from the Liberation Tigers.
