Record revenue from Jaffna vehicle registrations

The Registrar of Motor vehicles (RMV) who is causing great problems to vehicle owners in Jaffna by not introducing facilities to obtain driving licenses and other documents, has, however, reported to the Sri Lankan government a massive leap in its revenues this year.

Officials of the RMV in Jaffna said that the department has collected 3.37 million rupees in revenue from January to October 1997. RMV revenues were nil in Jaffna from 1990 to 1996.

Most of this monies appear to have accrued to the department through the registration of new motorcycles which are selling fast in the peninsula.
