Search operation in Jaffna

Hundreds of Sri Lanka Army soldiers conducted a search operation in the Neervely area about 12 km. north-east of Jaffna town from the early hours of Tuesday said sources in the northern town.
The soldiers sealed off the village of Arakesari and conducted a house-to-house search operation. The soldiers took away identity cards from the villagers and summoned them to Tharavai Pillaiyar temple premises where they were questioned, the sources said. Nearly five hundred men and women were interrogated by the soldiers during the operation. Meanwhile Sri Lanka Navy personnel conducted a search operation in Naranthanai, about 18 km west of Jaffna on the island of Kayts. No arrests were made during the operation sources said. Sources in Jaffna said troops have intensified cordon and search operation on the peninsula recently. Elsewhere on the peninsula Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) jets carried air-raids in Pallai,Iyakkachchi areas Tuesday morning.
