Fighting at Omanthai

The Liberation Tigers had repulsed the Sri Lanka Army troops who had attempted to advance at Vilakuvaithakulam in the Omanthai area, north of Vavuniya around 9 a.m. Saturday the Voice of Tigers (VoT) said in its morning transmission today. At least 6 government troops were killed in the fighting, the radio said.

According to the radio, the Tigers recovered among the other weapons; 2 RPGs, 1 Light Machine Gun, 3 T-56 assault riffles and hundreds of medium range rounds.

The bodies of 4 SLA soldiers were also recovered by the Tigers, the radio added.

Meanwhile the Sri Lankan state radio, quoting army sources said 7 government soldiers including an officer have been reported missing in fighting at Omantahi. The radio said four Tigers were killed in the fighting.
