Batticaloa police post attacked

One policeman was wounded when the Liberation Tigers attacked a police post at Kaluwanchikudi, 25 km. south of Batticaloa town on the Batticaloa - Kalmunai road around 12.45 p.m. today.
The Tigers came from the direction of Paddirippu in an autorickshaw said sources. The Bank of Ceylon building was damaged and the autorickshaw burnt when the police retaliated. The wounded policeman was identified as Sujeewa, (21). Police stations in the East have increasingly come under attack with force levels in the area dropping after several contingents of security forces were pulled out for Operation Jayasikurui in the North. Meanwhile, an SLA armoured car was damaged and two soldiers wounded at Vantharumoolai 16 km. north of Batticaloa, yesterday evening. The vehicle is reported to have overturned and rolled over three times.
