Tamil medium schools and several government and provincial offices in Trincomalee district were closed Friday in protest to the closure of Jaffna University and the detention of the undergraduate Krishnasamy Thiviyan.
This is in response to a call made by Trincomalee Students' Society. "The boycott campaign has been organized to condemn the indiscriminate arrest of Tamil students, atrocities committed on innocent Tamil people and closure of Jaffna University and other educational institutions in northeast province", a statement issued by the students said. Northeast Provincial Ministry of Education did not work as officers and other workers did not report for work. Most of the employees did not report for duty in government offices and provincial council departments, said sources.
