Stand of all parties on Referendum revealed

Thirty-three recognized political parties have intimated to the Department of Elections, whether they are for or against the referendum scheduled to be held on August 21, according to a press release by the Commissioner of Elections Dayananda Dissanayake. "Political parties that have not intimated their stand to the Department of Elections will be treated as neutral parties," the press release added.
Sixteen parties for the referendum proposals include the Peoples Alliance, Lanka Sama Samaja Party, Communist Party of Sri Lanka, Mahajana Eksath Peramuna, Desa Vimukthi Jathika Peramuna, Eelam Peoples Democratic Party, Liberal Party and Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Seventeen parties against the referendum proposals include the United National Party, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Sihala Urumaya, Sinhala Bhumiputhrayo Party, United Lalith Front and Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF). Thirteen parties that have not intimated their stand to the Elections Department include, Peoples Liberation Front (PLF), Eelam National Democratic Liberation Front (ENDLF), Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO), New Left Front, Nava SamaSamaja party, Puravsi Peramuna, All Ceylon Tamil Congress and the People's Front of Liberation Tigers.
