The Sri Lankan Army made a fresh attempt to resume the final phase of the 'Operation Jayasikurui' this weak said sources in Vavuniya. However, the columns of the Sri Lankan Army could not advance as the heavy monsoon rains which resumed in the Vanni this weak impeded the movements of the military vehicles.
Eight reservoirs in Vanni in which the water levels had come down recently have again begun to fill up to dangerous levels, said reports from the Vanni. The spills of Vavunikulam, Maruthankulam, Murikandikulam, Vethankandalkulam, Thunukaikulam, Iyankulam and Theniyankulam are the reservoirs where spill levels have risen due to recent monsoon rains. The waters on these reservoirs are flooding and muddying the tracks which lie ahead of 'Operation Jayasikurui's' forward areas, said sources in the Vanni.
