The body of a fishmonger who was killed on December 26 by the Razeek group in retaliation to the killing of seven of its cadres by the Liberation Tigers was recovered today in a highly decomposed state.
The man, identified as Velupillai Kandaiahpillai, 55, had left home from the village of Aarumuhaththaan Kudiyiruppu early in the morning around 6 a.m. on December 26 to buy fish at nearby Punnaikudah where the Tigers counter ambushed the Razeek group. He had been reported missing since then. Kandaiahpillai has been shot in the head said sources at Eravur hospital where the body was brought today. He is the father of six children. Sources said that the Razeek group had caught and tied him up as he had come upon them by accident while they were setting up the ambush. They had shot him dead when the LTTE counter ambushed and killed seven of them. The Sri Lankan army posthumously promoted the Razeek group cadres who were killed that day.
