Three youths shot dead in Jaffna

A clash between the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lankan Army was reported in the early hours of the morning at Thanankillapu, in Jaffna.
Details of the incident were not available. However the SLA handed over three bodies to the Chavakachcheri Hospital this morning, said reports from Jaffna. The police latter handed over the bodies to the Jaffna General Hospital. The Police reports say that the three were members of the Liberation Tigers, estimated to be 25 years of age and that some weapons were also captured by the SLA. Two of the dead youths were wearing shorts while the third was wearing a sarong. However informed sources in Jaffna said that at least one of the youths shot dead by the SLA was a civilian. The SLA cordoned off the area and launched a search operation following the incident. However , details of those detained are not known. Meanwhile unconfirmed reports say that two SLA soldiers were wounded in a fire-fight between the Liberation Tigers and the SLA at Nagar Kovil this morning. Casualties on the LTTE side are not known. A youth identified as Satkunalingam Kunamayooran, 25, from Adiyaptham Road in Nallur in Jaffna, who was arrested by the SLA on January 2, is yet to be released. His parents say that their son's whereabouts are not known.
