The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) predicted that the present government would collapse during November budget debate. "PA has become a servile to the JVP. If the SLMC desired it could rescue the PA government from the clutches of the JVP," said Mr.Rauff Hakeem, Leader of the SLMC and Kandy District Parliamentarian speaking at a meeting at Nintavur in the eastern province of the country Saturday evening.
One time ally of the ruling People's Alliance and now sitting with the opposition in parliament, Mr.Rauff Hakeem expressed confidence that "the time is nearing for the PA government to seek the assistance of the SLMC to protect it from defeat in the forthcoming budge debate." "The PA government is now dancing to the tunes of JVP to be in power The PA and JVP have signed the Memorandum of Understanding to achieve their political gains. The people of this country are not going to obtain any benefit under the MOU," stressed Mr.Hakeem. Meanwhile, another round of talks between PA and JVP leaders will be held Sunday evening to discuss the suggested changes to the draft 17th amendment bill. The UNP led opposition parties have made these changes essential if they are to support the suggestions draft bill. Mr.Wimal Weerawanse, JVP parliamentarian said Sunday's discussion would also be centered on abolishing the Executive Presidency and the cancellation of farmers' loans before September 30.
