SLA patrol ambushed

Four SLA soldiers were killed and three wounded when the Liberation Tigers ambushed a routine army patrol from the Valaichenai fisheries harbour camp early this morning around 6.15 a.m.
The SLA at the harbour camp goes on a daily route clearing operation along the Valaichenai - Kalkudah road as far as the Valaichenai cemetery. The LTTE ambushed the army at Puthukkudiyiruppu, which is about two kilometers from Valaichenai town. Map: Courtesy: Sunday Times |
Sources said there was heavy fighting in the area for more than forty five minutes. The army withdrew with its dead and wounded and later in the morning cordoned off the Puthukkudiyiruppu area. The search operation is still on said sources in Valaichenai.
