A counter - plaint filed yesterday in Sri Lanka's court of appeal by the DPLF (political front of the PLOTE) against the TULF's plaint challenging the rejection of its nomination lists to the local government polls in Jaffna might develop a technical snag in holding the elections as scheduled said legal sources today.
The PLOTE was cited as one of the respondents in the case filed by the TULF. President's Council Faiz Mustapha appeared for the PLOTE before a bench of two. The court postponed the hearing to Jan. 13. Legal sources said if the matter is not resolved on that date, the court might have to issue a stay order which might lead to a postponement of the Jaffna local polls. An official at the Election Commission said that ballot papers for the polls can be printed only after the court issues a verdict on the matter.
