New regulations have been introduced recently by the Sri Lankan Navy at Karainagar that all privately owned cameras have to be handed over to the nearest security point or camp, in the island said sources in Jaffna.
They will be sealed and retained by the authorities and released only if the camera is needed for an occasion such as a wedding. The precaution has been taken by the Navy, according to sources, to see that highly sensitive points such as the causeway are not photographed. The Navy has also stipulated that only women can engage in shallow water fishing by the Ponnalai causeway. Only 36 women can fish on either side of the causeway during day time according to this security forces regulation. The bus route to Karainagar was opened recently and these measures are taken in view of the increasing number of people going to and from Karainagar.
