More LTTE activists in Trinco

The second group of Liberation Tigers authorised to engage in political activities in government held areas under the permanent ceasefire agreement arrived in Trincomalee by sea from Mutur on Monday. The group comprising twelve LTTE members, including four women, was headed by District Political Secretary Mr.A.Ruban.

The LTTE group left Sampoor village in Mutur east Monday morning through Kattaiparichchan Bridge, which is the gateway to LTTE held areas. The passenger vessel 'Seruvila’ brought them to Trincomalee civilian jetty where the LTTE's District Political Administrative Secretary Mr.Iynkaran received them. Later they were taken to the LTTE’s Trincomalee district office.

Later Mr. Ruban answered questions posed by the local journalists. "Our main function is to educate the masses about the substance contained in the cease-fire agreement and to take forward the peace process safely without giving room for evil forces which are now actively engaged in sabotaging it," he said.

Referring to the resettlement of displaced people in villages abandoned due to military operations, Mr. Ruban said, "Tamil families in large number had fled from their own villages in 1983 and 1990 disturbances. Other communities have occupied some of the lands in abandoned villages. We should first find out the original settlers of the abandoned villages before implementing resettlement projects."
