Sri Lanka govt. peace team meets Thamilchelvan

The Chairman of the Sri Lankan government's Peace Secretariat Mr. Bernard Goonatilake Tuesday evening briefed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the two hours discussion he had with Mr.S.P.Thamilchelvan at the headquarters of the LTTE's political division in Kilinochchi earlier in the day, government sources said.

The government team led by Mr. Goonatilake was accompanied Norwegian diplomat Mr. Thomas Strangeland and was flown to Killinochchi Tuesday morning by a Sri Lanka Air Force helicopter.

The team met Mr. Thamilchelvan at the LTTE headquarters and had talks for about two hours. Later the government team was flown back to Colombo around 4.30 p.m.

On the return the Chairman of the government peace secretariat Mr.Bernard Goonatilake briefed the Prime Minister about the outcome of the crucial talks he had had with the LTTE's political wing leader Mr. Thamilchelvan, government sources said.
