"Traders in Thenmaradchy district who had to abandon their stocked goods when the Liberation Tigers captured areas under the control of Sri Lanka security forces during the phases of operation Unceasing Waves in 2000 will be compensated," said Mr. S. Thamilenthi, head of the financial section of the LTTE.
"When Thenmaradchy came under our control we recovered stockpile of goods in abandoned business premises. We catalogued these items in the presence of two representatives of the Vanni Commercial Corporation before accepting responsibility for these items. Compensation will soon be provided to the business owners for these goods," Thamilenthi added. In Jaffna Peninsula and in Vanni efforts are underway to establish price limits on essential goods. Price control officers are to be appointed in all districts of North and East. These officers will report to Government Agents of the respective regions and will be responsible for recommending prices on essential goods. The Price Control Officers will also establish a system for strictly monitoring if the businesses in the North and East are abiding by the guidelines on prices established by the pricing commission.
