CID questions Kumaratunga's ex- media advisor

Top officials of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Wednesday questioned controversial Sinhala film actor Sanath Gunatileke who has been accused of abductions, intimidation and malpractices during the People's Alliance regime, whilst serving as the media spokesman for President Chandrika Kumaratunge for about six years, police sources said.
Mr.Sanath Gunatileke had reported to the CID headquarters Wednesday around four in the evening. As he failed to appear at the scheduled time of 10 a.m., the Police searched for him at several places to take him to the CID office, sources said. The Police sources said he was being interrogated in connection with a number of criminal acts alleged to have been committed during the PA regime. The acts include setting fire to the Moneragala house of the famous Sinhala actress Ms. Anoja Weerasinghe and threatening singers Rukantha and Chandralekha. The victims are reportedly strong supporters of the present United National Front government.
