The Liberation Tigers are commemorating the fifth death anniversary of Sathasivam Krishnakumar (Kittu) who was their Jaffna commander in 1985-87 in the Paduvankarai region in Batticaloa today.
The LTTE's political wing leader for the Batticaloa district, Keethan, will preside at the cultural progarm at Kokkaddicholai, about eight kilometers west of Batticaloa across the lagoon, tonight said a spokesman of the organisation. Sources say that banners and pandols to mark the event have come up in several parts of the Paduvankarai region since yesterday. The Liberation Tigers maintain a large portrait of the dead LTTE Jaffna commander at the Kokkaddicholai junction. Kittu was killed when the ship he was travelling in was intercepted by the Indian Navy on Jan. 16, 1993, and he, refusing to surrender blewup himself with the vessel.
