Peiris to lead Sri Lanka delegation to Thailand

"The Thailand peace talks will pave way for permanent peace in Sri Lanka. I will be leading country's delegation to the peace talks scheduled to be held in mid September," said Constitutional Affairs Minister, Professor G.L.Peiris, Sunday. The Minister was addressing after opening the third day of ‘Yuga Thekma’ industrial exhibition in Trincomalee Sunday evening.

G.L.Peiris at Yuga Thekma"Trincomalee should be developed to play a vital role in the economic development of the country. To achieve this aim permanent peace should return to the island. I am very glad to meet the people of Trincomalee before going to Thailand next month to participate in the peace talks between my government and the LTTE," said Professor Peiris.

Professor Peiris who held the Constitutional Affairs Ministry under the People’s Alliance government for about six years said, "eighteen-year-old war should be brought an end permanently. We also should work hard to find a permanent solution to the national problem thus ensuring permanent peace in the country."

Professor Peiris who is also Minister of Enterprise Development, Industrial Policy, and Investment promotion.

He said that the Prime Minister would issue a policy statement on the economic plan formulated to develop the country in parliament next month. The island is to be divided into economic zones under the proposed plan, the Minister further said.

Mahinda Samarasinghe at Yuga ThekmaMinister of Employment and Labour and the National Organiser of the United National Party (UNP), a main constituent of the United National Front (UNF) government Mr.Mahinda Samarasinghe said, the country urgently needed permanent peace to take forward economic development activities.

Trincomalee should be developed in the interest of the country. He hoped permanent peace would be dawned in the country very soon than expected, Mr.Samarasinghe said.

The Minister of Power and Energy Mr.Karu Jayasuriya declared open the second day exhibition. He said a new industrial culture should be introduced to the country. The ‘Yuga Thekma’ is the first step in this regard.

Dr.Karunasena Kodituwakku, Minister of Human Development and Education said that the industrial development should take place at rural level.

Minister of Western Development Mr.M.H.Mohamed also spoke at the function.
