PTA case without evidence dropped

The Mannar Magistrate Thursday discharged a man charged under the Prevention of Terrorism (PTA) when the Attorney General withdrew the indictment against him. The accused was brought to Mannar Wednesday from Kalutara prison and produced in court Thursday.

The Sri Lanka Navy arrested F. R. Christian of Arippu, Mannar on December 17 last year at Thalvupadu in Mannar for allegedly possessing a hand bomb. The accused was handed over to Mannar Police on December 30 and had been in remand for about nine months at Kalutara prison.

The Attorney General informed the Mannar Magistrate Mr.M.P.Mohideen that there was no evidence against the accused to proceed with the case. Hence the Magistrate ordered the release of the accused.
