EPDP seeking new office
[TamilNet, Friday, 23 January 1998, 23:59 GMT]
The EPDP on the Delft (Nedunthivu), island off Jaffna, is looking for a new office cum camp, after the Sri Lankan Police moved in to the building occupied by them thus far.
The EPDP had set up its camp what was formally the Delft Police station. Following the decision by the IGP to set up a police station on Delft from January 17, the group is left with out an office there. The Police set up this camp following protest by other groups contesting the Jaffna elections, that they are unable to work on the island, as the EPDPs armed cadres were solely in control of the Island. The island of Delft is far flung from the peninsula and remains quite isolated. It has its own local government body. The heavily armed cadres of the EPDP dominate and control Delft.
