The Action Committee for the Immediate Release of all Political Prisoners
(ACIRPP) Tuesday appealed to the Tamil National Alliance to announce its
strategy on using its parliamentary strength to expedite the release
of all political prisoners.
The ACIRPP has made this appeal when one hundred and thirty nine Tamil
political prisoners under detention at Kalutara prison began a fast unto
death campaign Tuesday morning. The political prisoners on hunger strike demand that Minister Milinda
Morogoda should meet them at Kalutara prison regarding their release,
sources said. The ACIRPP members met Tuesday at the office of the Centre for Human Rights
and Development (CHRD) in Colombo discussed several issues regarding
continued detention Tamil political prisoners. The ACIRPP later said in a statement," all political prisoners should be
released forthwith. The Tamil National Alliance which has fifteen
parliamentarians should exert its parliamentary strength in every possible
manner to get the political prisoners released without further delay."
