The parliamentary group leader of the Sinhala nationalist Janata Vimukthi Peramuna
(Peoples Liberation Front-JVP) Mr.Wimal Weerawanse has been ordered to appear before the Bribery and Corruption Commission of Sri Lanka Monday. Commission officials are to question Mr.Wimal Weerawanse regarding the bank account maintained by the JVP, sources in Colombo said Sunday.
During the PA regime, several allegations were made against the JVP regarding the maintenance of a bank account. Irregularities were spotlighted during the PA regime regarding the purchase of properties by some JVP leaders. The Bribery and Corruption commission officials some times back conducted investigations into the purchase of land and properties by Mr.Wimal Weerawanse in the south of the country, the sources said. The JVP is now vehemently opposing the UNF government stating that Prime Minister is betraying the country by having talks with the LTTE. The JVP is also opposing Norwegian facilitator role in finding resolution to the ethnic conflict.
