Police arrests student in Point Pedro

The Point Pedro Police Sunday arrested a Tamil student for causing damage to Sri Lanka Army (SLA) property in the high security zone on 2 September during an agitation by residents and students demanding the removal of SLA camps and sentries located in the vicinity of Hartley College and Methodist Girls High School.
The police produced the student, Balakirushnan Balasothy, before the Point Pedro Magistrate Mr.A.Premshankar Monday. Agreeing to an application by the Police, the Magistrate remanded the student till November 11. The Police told court that the suspect was arrested for causing damages to the SLA property worth more than two hundred thousand rupees by setting fire to sentries and camps of the SLA in the high security zone during the agitation. Related to the same incident, Point Pedro Police had previously arrested several suspects including the President and a member of the Koddady Fisheries Society Arumugam Viknarajah and Rajadurai Uthayaseelan respectively. They were later released on bail.
