EPDP cadres blamed for firing

The ex-EPDP member of the parliament Mr. R. Ramamurthy lodged a complaint with the Sri Lankan Police at Kaytes today that he was shot at by a group of heavily armed EPDP cadres at his mother's residence on Suruvuil road, Karampan, at around 12.45 p.m. this afternoon.

Mr. Ramamurthy alleged that around 30 heavily armed EPDP cadres had surrounded his mother's house and tried to kill him by firing into the building.

The Kaytes Police are yet to respond or take action.

The leader of the EPDP, Douglas Devananda, sacked Rameswaran and his brother Ramamurthy from the group in June last year.

Both brothers were members of Parliament for Jaffna and are functioning separately in Parliament now.

The Rameswaram brothers are contesting the local government polls as an independent group in two Pradesha Sabhas in the islands off the Jaffna peninsula.
