Limited progress reported in Omanthai meet

The meeting between the Liberation Tigers (LTTE) and the Officers of Security forces to discuss problems arising from High Security Zones (HSZ) in Vavuniya, Mannar and Mullaitivu
districts, conducted in Omanthai no-mans land
concluded with decision taken to continue discussions at the forthcoming sub-committee meeting, sources said. The meeting
started Monday morning at 9.30am and lasted for 5 hours.
Head of LTTE Southern Military Command Colonel Jeyam,
Vavuniya district head of Political
section Elilan, Mannar district head of political section
Amuthab, Mullaitivu district head of political section
Muhunthan, Mannar head of Sea Tigers Lt.Colonel Laxman, Major Viduthlai
of Sea Tigers and an Officer of the political section Thaya Master
participated in the discussions on behalf of LTTE. Government of Sri Lanka was represented by Major General Shantha Kottegoda,
Vanni Head of armed forces Major General Susil Chandrapala,
head of Northern Region naval forces Rear Admiral Weerasekera, Chief
Police Commissioner Abdul Majeed, and Army Officer Gunatilleke. Civil servants, Vavuniya Government Agent K. Ganesh, Vavuniya Regional Secretary
Sivalingam Sathiyaseelan, Chettikulam Regional Secretary Ms. T. Thuraisamy,
Vavuniya Planning Commissioner Ms.V.Vigneswaran also participated
in the discussions, sources in Vanni said. Colonel Jeyam, talking to the press,
said that the talks mainly focussed
on the issue of resettling people displaced from the areas of HSZs
in Mannar and Mullaitivu districts. He was disappointed that no significant
progress was made during the deliberations. He added that the issues will
be again taken up during the forthcoming sub-Committee meetings.
